    Midwest All Girls Tournament  (9-1-08)

Welcome to the world of soccer! As many of you know already, this weekend the girls are played

in their first tournament of the season missing 2 players in their first game and 3 in their second.

But despite the lack of depth on the bench, and the skill level of their opponents, the girls played

      tough games today.

    First Heartland Games  (8-17-08)

The Azzurri girls faced a tough weekend in their first league appearance of the season; however

they stood their ground despite their lack of full team practices leading up to Sunday.  The team

posted a 0-2 loss in game one against KSA Orange, but not without their own shining moments

from the forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers.  Through combination of hard running

and good passing and possession, Azzurri created opportunities for shots on goal in both halves of

play.  Defensively, the girls were quick and the goalkeeping sharp, including a great showing from

rookie goalkeeper Soza.  Overall, this game was a promising beginning for the girls that revealed

many strengths as well as areas needing improvement.

Game two of the day was a horse of a different color.  For reasons unbeknownst to us, Azzurri's

scheduled opponent Rush Nike was unable to commit to league play; therefore Heartland arranged

for another, higher level team to fill in for the games ensuring that these games would be

automatically recorded as forfeits to the teams who were registered to play in the league.  So that

is how the team came to play the U17 KCFC team, which is a team that normally plays league in the

MRL.  It was a very rough game, but, regardless of the tough competition, Azzurri played hard

throughout.  It may go down as the strangest 3-0 win many of us have ever witnessed!
